Daily Schedule of Activities
6:30 am-8:15 am: Children will settle into small groups as they gradually arrive. Once larger numbers of children arrive, they will be dispersed into smaller groups according to age. During this early morning time activities such as coloring, reading books, puzzles and manipulatives will be provided, as well as serving children breakfast brought from home.
8:15-8:45 am: Bathroom breaks/drinks, children settle into classrooms
8:45-9:15 am: All teachers arrive by this time and have carefully gathered and settled their students into their assigned classrooms. Preschool begins at 8:30 a.m. During this time, teachers will support student’s development and provide opportunities to learn, play and foster friendships. Though each class will differ by activity level, each classroom will incorporate activities that foster aesthetic, cognitive, emotional, language, physical, and or social development. This is a time to engage as a whole group as well as individually. This time will regularly provide phonological awareness and letter recognition through flashcards, poems, rhymes, songs and finger plays and manual dexterity; printing. Calendar time is also a part of this time of day; children will learn days of the week, months of the year, counting the date, reviewing seasons of the year and noting the weather for the day.
9:15-9:30 am: Healthy Morning Snack, restroom break and drinks
9:30-10:00 am: Outdoor recess time when weather permits, Indoor exercise if weather does not permit, stretching and large motor skill play.
10:00-10:40 am: Spanish class on Mon and Thurs. Music on Tuesday and Wednesday. These specialty classes will be 20 minutes long for each age group. Music class will start at age 18 months and Spanish class will start at age 2 but for shorter time periods. This time is also set aside for guided theme lessons and early math skills. Teachers will provide opportunities and materials to help children build an understanding of numbers, counting, sorting, shape recognition and measuring. This is also time used for manual dexterity practice. Proper letter formation and learning to print our names correctly will be a focus. Please see our annual thematic calendar.
10:40-11:10 am: Carefully crafted art projects will be introduced to the children. This time will focus on developing small motor skills through, cutting, lacing, painting and coloring as well as focusing on following sequential directions, fostering imagination and creativity and exploring tactile materials.
11:10-11:30 am: Inside play time; teachers will engage children in play that may be linked to classroom topics of study; holiday, seasonal, thematic topics. This time is also set aside for the teacher to help children learn physical games with rules and structure. This time allows children to choose from several different areas of play, including dramatic play, manipulatives, building blocks, imaginative play, independent reading and art centers. There will always be an opportunity for children to play together as well as alone; an area within each classroom will be designated for children to read or play independently.
11:30-11:45 am: Story time led by teacher; teachers will explore books with the children daily. Children may retell a story, reenact events in the story or use puppets to follow the story events. Children will be provided with space within the classroom that is conducive to quiet activity with books to enjoy individually or with small groups. It is our intention to foster early literacy in each child.
11:45 am: Clean up classroom; our goal is to have all the children take pride in their classroom environment, we encourage all children to join in team work as well as learn to respect the property of others. Wash up for lunch!
12:00-12:30 Lunch is served by the school. During lunch time, etiquette, table manners and healthy food choices will be reinforced and exemplified by staff. Our focus will never be on external beauty or weight, but rather on healthy food choices and healthy body and mind. Please see our menu samples. Weekly menus will be posted. If your child has any food allergies or restrictions please see the director. Lunches can be brought from home if preferred.
